WVCC - Club Member Showcase - Ian Pratt -
I worked as a solicitor for 40 years before retiring in 2016. I have always had an
interest in the natural world and photography became a way to record what I
was seeing. I started photography when the first of my four children was born,
using an Olympus trip camera. I progressed from there through various film
cameras including Minolta, Olympus and Canon. I went digital in 2006 with a
Canon point and shoot camera, eventually graduating to a Canon 6D DSLR full
frame camera with a 100-400 zoom lens. I also use a small Lumix compact
camera and my Pixel 7 mobile phone.
My main interests in photography are all kinds of natural history, landscapes
and travel.
I won the Ventnor Botanic Garden photo competition in 2016, and about a
quarter of the photos in their guidebook are mine.
I have also won competitions with Hants and IOW Wildlife Trust , RSPB, and
Mountbatten Hospice.
